Design and management of community initiative for local businesses

A campaign encouraging community members to support small businesses by shopping locally.

Background and Challenge

The tragic explosion in Rozelle, in September 2014, prompted our team’s initiation of the “Shop Local in Rozelle” campaign. It was quickly evident that local retail businesses would experience significant hardship as a result of the highly unfortunate blast, which shut off access to many retailers for 2 – 6 weeks.

Our Solution

Our response was to independently and quickly design, develop and print small posters and flyers for local retailers to display, “I Shop Rozelle” stickers for retailers to hand out and large scale posters and sign writing on prominent high traffic spaces – to encourage trade to return.

What Happened Next

The “Shop Local in Rozelle” campaign really helped to create a drive for community support at a time when Rozelle’s businesses were facing a particularly difficult challenge, reminding locals of the importance of supporting small business and pulling together in times of crisis.

We are most grateful to the donated printing support from All Print Matters, and to Leichhardt Council/Balmain Rozelle Chamber of Commerce, who came on board to fund the printing of the large posters and a local newspaper ad.
