Recent Juntos Marketing conference presentations and panels

As a team, we have been delighted to participate in panel discussions and to present a number of papers at professional and academic conferences over the past few months.

LASA NSW State Conference

“Is our industry being judged by its headlines?”

A topic of relevance well beyond an aged care provider audience, this panel elicited a lively discussion and great audience questions.

Panel members outlined their recommended approaches to crisis management.  As a highly personal sector, it was acknowledged that any crisis will always be deeply emotional for all concerned, from the older person and family, to the staff and carers, and to the wider community.  All panel members stressed the importance of thorough preparation and risk management initiatives, well in advance of any issue.  Recommendations included checklists, role allocation, team work and role playing possible scenarios.

A key theme of the panel discussion focused on taking control and promoting positive messages around aged care, particularly when things are going well.  By investing in strategic marketing and communications, organisations can build positive messages, strong relationships and good will, all of which will help you weather a storm.

Panel members included Nieves Murray, CEO of IRT Group, Amiria MacKinnon, Communications Manager at The Whiddon Group, and our director, Carolyn Loton.

World Congress on Public Health

Presenting a game-based approach to sugary drinks education

Presented in the “Media and Social Marketing” stream at the WCPH in Melbourne in April 2017, the “Thirsty? Choose Water!” campaign delivered promising results in terms of awareness, knowledge and intended behaviour change relating to sugary drinks consumption.

Using a game-based approach, this Central Coast Local Health District pilot aimed to educate Year 7 students about sugary drinks and encourage them to choose water.  The campaign utilised fun ‘goodie’ and ‘baddie’ characters, across a range of printed and digital materials.

Over 3000 students participated in the program, and the WCPH paper presented findings of over 500 completed pre and post intervention surveys.

This campaign was short listed for an Australian Marketing Institute award.

Juntos Marketing also presented a second paper at the World Congress on Public Health, summarising our research on the most effective and valued ways to communicate with older people.

Fall Prevention Network Forum, Sydney 2017

Communicating healthy ageing messages: what do older people value?

Nearly 400 health professionals gathered in central Sydney in mid-May to attend the annual Fall Prevention Network Forum, hosted by NeuRA and the Clinical Excellence Commission.

Our paper reported the main findings and recommendations for communicating healthy ageing messages with older people, based on the qualitative research we undertook in conjunction with The George Institute of Global Health.

Key recommendations ranged from suggested wording and terminology, content, layout and the role of endorsement to the use of colour, font style and imagery.

Please get in touch with us if you would like to find out more about these research findings.

As experienced marketers, we are always keen for opportunities to share our knowledge and perspectives, and to develop relevant, helpful Juntos Marketing conference presentations.  If you have a conference or event coming up, please get in touch to discuss how we might be able to add value for your audience.
